
EXTRA CURRICULAR
Athletics
With the opening of the Kingrey Center for the 2008 – 09 academic year and the addition of 8th grade to the Middle School, High Point Friends School has joined the ISL Athletic Conference. Co-ed teams open to students in grades 5 – 8 will be fielded in soccer, flag football, volleyball, basketball and cross country. Other conference members are: B’Nai Shalom, Greensboro Montessori, Guilford Day and New Garden Friends.
Chess Club
The school offers two chess clubs – one for Lower School students in grades 2 – 4 and one for Middle School students (grades 5 – 8). Chess Clubs meet as an after school activity.
Rock Climbing Club
An after school rock climbing club is offered to middle school students. The Kingrey Center has a rock climbing wall 28' in height to challenge those students who wish to join this club. Participation is limited to 8 students per quarter.
Odyssey of the Mind
HPFS sponsors Odyssey of the Mind Teams for Lower and Middle School Students. Students in grades 2-5 under the age of 11 are eligible for the Lower School team and students in grades 5 – 8 age 11 or older are eligible for the Middle School team. Students participating on Odyssey of the Mind teams learn to apply problem-solving skills to meet an academic challenge. The teams compete on local, regional and state levels.
OM teams have won the following distinctions:
- Lower School 2006 First Place (Northern Region)
- Lower School 2007 Third Place (Northern Region)
- Lower School 2008 First Place (Northern Region)
- Middle School 2008 Second Place (Northern Region)
The 2006 and 2008 teams went on to state competition. 2008 was the first year HPFS fielded a Middle School team.
Spring Musical
Lower School and Middle School students are encouraged to participate in the spring musical presented each year under the direction of Mrs. Linda Selleck. Rehearsals are after school and on weekends. High school youth from High Point Friends Meeting as well as many community volunteers participate. This year’s production will be on April 4th and 5th in Ragan Hall.
